  • Ishmael Beah: He is the main Character who goes through many trials and tribulations in his youth years because of war.

  • Alhaji: he is one of the seven boys. Ishmael went to school with him too.
  • Musa: He is another one of the seven boys. He too went to school with Ishmael.
  • Jumah: He is one of the quieter boys he answers with head gestures.
  • Saidu: He is a quiet one of the seven that isolates himself.
  • Moriba: He is also a quieter one and he isolates himself with Saidu.
  • The Man: He was a man who took care of the boys after their feet had gotten burned really badly when they were on the beach running from men.

Setting:

  • This takes place on the sand at the beach. It is hot and the water has waves splashing.

Problem:

  • The boys are trying to get help, but people keep on mistaking them as rebels.

Beginning:

  • The boys were wandering the beach and they had seen a village that looked abandoned. They didn’t realize that it wasn’t empty. So they continued into the village of huts.
  • When they entered the village the people of the village jumped out and sat on them. They tied the boys’ hands and feet and took them to the chief.
  • The boys were stripped of their sneakers and chased out of the village. They didn’t realize how hot the ground was until they stopped running. When they stopped their feet burned so badly they cried without sound.

Middle:

  • The boys ran until they reached a hut where they sat. A man came in and was going to leave and get the people of his village, until he saw the looks on the boys’ faces and realized the boys need help and was innocent.
  • The man left to get food. He told them were the sleeping mats were. He gave them ointment to make their feet feel better and he just took care of them.
  • The boys stayed with the man for a week and they were able to stay until they had gotten better. The man also told them to put their feet and the salt water so they could get better sooner.

End:

  • The boys were sleeping in the hut until the man’s mother came and told them they had to leave because men from the village were coming for them. The woman seemed to care just as much as the man and she knew the whole time.
  • The boys left and when they left they were being chased by 12 men. They ran, but did not get away. They got pinned down and tied up. When Ishmael tried to flash a look of innocence to the man who was capturing him it didn’t work.
  • The boys were in placed in front of the chief. The chief said they were little devils. When he heard Ishmael’s rap music he was somewhat interested. When Ishmael explained it and performed what he usually did that saved their lives. The chief realized they are nothing, but little innocent kids who are trying to find a way to safety. They let them go, but told them they had to immediately leave.

Conclusion:

  • In the end the boys were safe. They continued on their way and still stuck with each other, but Ishmael had escaped death once again.

Prediction:

  • I think Ishmael will either get separate from these boys too.
